Arsenal plot £59m transfer swoop for Mikel Arteta's 'dream' striker target

Arsenal are being tipped to try and sign Inter Milan star Marcus Thuram before the January transfer window closes.

The Gunners have already been credited with an interest in several potential new signings, but are yet to make any new additions to their squad. Arsenal have until February 3 to complete their transfer business, and the rumours will likely intensify even more as deadline day approaches.

Mikel Arteta has been widely tipped to be looking to sign a striker for Arsenal in recent transfer windows. The rumours first emerged 12 months ago, last January, and the speculation continued into the summer window.

Despite the gossip, Arsenal did not sign a striker either last January or in the summer, but a fresh report has suggested that could be about to change.

According to Italian news outlet TV Play, Arsenal are weighing up a move for Thuram before the transfer window closes. The report claims that Arteta wants to bring the Inter star to the Emirates Stadium to strengthen his striker options, with Thuram identified as a 'dream' target.

Thuram has been in fine form for Inter this season, scoring 14 goals with six assists across all competitions. That form has helped Inter climb up to second place in Serie A and sixth in the Champions League standings.

It has been reported that Thuram is valued at around 70million (£59million) by Inter, where he joined the club on a free transfer in 2023 after leaving Borussia Monchengladbach. However, it hs been suggested that, if Arsenal were to plot a move for Thuram, it would more likely happen in the summer rather than before the February 3 deadline.

Thuram is the latest striker to be linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months, and may not be the last. The France international joins a list of forwards that includes Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak and Victor Gyokeres.
