Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal transfer update as £60m decision made after 'agreement' struck

by · football.london

Arsenal have been told of Sporting CP's fresh demands to sell Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer window. The Swede is expected to be on the move over the next few months after another sensational season in front of goal with the Gunners leading the race for his signature.

This past Saturday's 1-1 draw against Portuguese title rivals Benfica, in which he grabbed goal contribution number 52 of the season, was Gyokeres' 100th appearance for Sporting.

While the next two games could be his final appearances, they are huge for Gyokeres and teammates as two victories will result in them winning two trophies. Following Sunday, May 25, his focus will undoubtedly shift to the future with the summer window opening just a week or so later.

Groundwork over a move has already been completed by Arsenal with that fast-tracked since the arrival of new sporting director Andrea Berta back in March.

The 26-year-old seems to be the club's favoured signing up top and some positive developments now look to have taken place. As revealed on the front page of Saturday's edition of Correio da Manha, the Gunners are said to have submitted their first official offer with an agreement on personal terms already struck.

Much has been said about how much Arsenal will likely have to pay for his services. According to reports in Portugal from earlier this year, there is an agreement between Sporting and Gyokeres that allows him to leave for a set fee.

And the value of that may have just been revealed with the Mirror claiming that the Gunners have been told it will cost them £60million to sign him. They have also noted that Gyokeres is commanding well in excess of £200k-a-week which would make him one of Arsenal’s top earners.

Given what he could deliver for Mikel Arteta, it is a financial package worth committing to and it is also a fee that allows other big signings to be made.

Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad looks to be one of those with an agreement now in place for him to join. Arsenal now must decide whether to activate his £51million release clause or pay over that fee using instalments.

football.london understands that Arsenal also want to sign a wide forward, back-up goalkeeper and defender this summer. To make several new additions, exits will need to be sanctioned with Jorginho and Kieran Tierney players that have already pre-agreed exits.

"It's not something I think about, nor something I give any importance to," Gyokeres said when quizzed on transfer talk in November. "It's just rumours, nothing concrete.

"Of course I want to finish the season at Sporting, I'm enjoying my time there. "I don't feel stressed about making a change in the future.

"We'll see when the time comes"
