Latest Arsenal and Real Madrid injury news as three stars 'ruled out' after Thomas Partey update
by Kieran Horn · football.londonSome big returns look set to arrive in Arsenal's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday evening, but at least two players will be fresh absentees.
The Gunners head to the Bernabeu with a three-goal lead and thus one foot in the semi-finals, though that could be in jeopardy after a double injury blow. Both Thomas Partey and Jorginho were taken off this past Saturday against Brentford with issues which saw Mikel Arteta deliver concerning updates.
"Yeah, he [Partey] felt something so we didn't want to take any risks. We don't know [if he'll be ok for Wednesday], I haven't spoken to the doctors yet. So they will check him now and see how he is."
On Jorginho having an injury to his ribs, Arteta added: "It looks like it, so I don't exactly know. But yeah, the problem is breathing, so I'd say he could not carry on."
The Mirror have now revealed that Jorginho is set to miss a few weeks and that will rule him out of the second leg. Ben White was also absent from the matchday squad on Saturday evening with a new niggle picked up.
"Again, we don't know," Arteta said of him. "So he could not be in condition to be in the squad today and be selected. So we have a few days but we'll have to wait and see." Despite concerns surrounding him and Partey, the duo were spotted in training at London Colney.
While Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka overcame minor issues picked up in the first leg, Riccardo Calafiori is expected to remain out. Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the long-term absentees.
As for Madrid, Eduardo Camavinga is one new absentee after he was sent off when the two sides met last Tuesday. Though Carlo Ancelotti has lost a key midfielder, two options in that department are back available with Aurelien Tchouameni's suspension over and Dani Ceballos back from injury.
Andriy Lunin nor Ferland Mendy could not recover in time though, with both players set to remain absent through injury, as per Spanish outlet Marca.
Kylian Mbappe will also miss at least one Madrid game over the next few weeks after he was sent off against Alaves this past weekend. As the red card was shown in La Liga, the ban does not carry over into the Champions League and thus he will be available for the second leg.
Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are the Madrid players missing through long-term issues with it expected neither feature again this season.
