Chelsea have already been dealt a blow to their hopes of signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this month. The 23-year-old winger has been briefly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the past after catching the eye in the Italian top-flight.

Kvaratskhelia, who sees his contract at Napoli expire in June 2027, has featured 17 times in the Serie A this season, scoring five goals and providing three assists. Playing a key role in Antonio Conte's side, he's helped Gli Azzurri climb to the top of the table.

Despite the Georgia international's slim return in the final third, he's attracted interest from some top clubs. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with Napoli regarding a potential deal in the January transfer window.

The report states that Kvaratskhelia is no longer viewed as untouchable by the Italian giants, with David Neres staking a claim for a place in the starting lineup. It's said that Conte's side want €80m (£67m) for the Georgian.

While Napoli may be open to offloading the winger this month, Mamuka Jugeli has already outlined his client's demands. Speaking to Georgian outlet Imedi in June, Kvaratskhelia's agent said: "I don’t want people to think that Kvara wants to stay at Napoli.

"We want to leave, but we are waiting for the end of the Euros so as not to disturb Khvicha. The priority is to join a team that plays in the Champions League."

Kvaratskhelia's father made a similar remark in the summer. As quoted by Liverpool.com, Badri said: "I don’t want my son to stay at Napoli. They changed three coaches last season, and it’s hard to play in a similar situation."

Then, as quoted by Corriere dello Sport, Jugeli added: "Kvaratskhelia without the Champions League? Then he wants to win the Scudetto. For the future everything depends on the president of Napoli. If he thinks of selling Kvara, he will do. If he wants the renewal, he will renew."

While his agent and father pushed for a move, Kvaratskhelia kept his cards close to his chest. As quoted by the Evening Standard, the Napoli star said: "I respect [Antonio] Conte, he’s one of the best managers. I respect also Napoli, I love Napoli. I will decide my future after the Euros. Now I’m focused on the game vs Spain."

The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss quickly extinguished speculation that Kvaratskhelia could leave once he was appointed head coach. Speaking to reporters, Conte said: "There are no doubts. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia stays here and he will play for Napoli. There are no doubts, it’s all clear. Kvara will stay here with us."

Despite the war of words in June, Kvaratskhelia ended up staying at Napoli. Now, he could leave. According to ESPN in November 2023, Chelsea joined a long list of clubs in the race to sign the Georgian before deciding to prioritise the signing of a striker instead.
