Pep Guardiola dealt another Man City blow amid Arsenal and Liverpool Premier League title race
by Kieran Horn · football.londonPep Guardiola's Manchester City nightmare has continued with Aston Villa coming out winners in their Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon. The reigning champions have now lost eight of their last 11 games in all competitions and are all but out of the title race with their Champions League position also in jeopardy.
Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers were the scorers for Villa and though Phil Foden pulled one back in added time, City could not find an equaliser. Despite the fact Arsenal have drawn their last two Premier League games, three points still separates them with Unai Emery's side now also above Man City and into the top five.
Tottenham (x2), Brighton, Manchester United and Juventus have all beaten City over the last few months with Villa as the latest to do so. Given the fixtures that await Guardiola and his players, it does not look as though things will be getting much easier any time soon.
Though Everton, Leicester and West Ham are their opponents for the next three games, City must then face Brentford, Ipswich and Paris Saint-Germain away from home in the space of eight days. City now find themselves below Villa, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in the table.
Looking ahead, the chaotic Christmas period has now certainly begun and with so many points on the line, a significant amount can change in a short period of time. For Arsenal, they take on Crystal Palace, Ipswich, Brentford and Brighton all in the next 15 days.
As for Arne Slot's side, fixtures against Tottenham, Leicester, West Ham and Manchester United are all on the horizon. Chelsea meanwhile, seemingly as the biggest threat to Liverpool currently, have a number of matches away from Stamford Bridge starting with a trip to Everton this Sunday.
Enzo Maresca and his players must also travel for games against Ipswich and Crystal Palace though a Boxing Day clash at home to Fulham comes before that.
