Arsenal learn Benjamin Sesko transfer truth as new striker search continues

by · football.london

Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

The Gunners have been credited with an interest in signing Sesko for several months, with initial rumours going back to last summer.

Arsenal have been widely tipped to try and sign a new striker for more than a year, and those rumours have only intensified in recent weeks.

With the January transfer window open, Arsenal have an opportunity to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad should they wish to do so.

As a result speculation continues to swirl claiming that a new striker is still on the club's transfer wishlist before the window closes on February 3.

Sesko was linked with a move to Arsenal last summer before he signed a new long-term contract with Leipzig. At the time, Sesko was believed to have a £50million release clause in his original contract, with some suggestions that figure has increased to as high as £70million.

football.london understands that Arsenal's interest in Sesko is genuine, with the Gunners still keeping an eye on the player despite not bringing him to North London last summer. However, it's understood suggestions of a loan deal being agreed to bring the Leipzig striker to Arsenal this month are not true.

Amid the continued interest in Sesko, Transfermarkt have placed a valuation on the Arsenal target. The site has slapped a €50million (£42.3million) market value on the Leipzig striker, which is significantly less than the reported £70million release clause that is now in his contract.

Sesko has scored 13 goals in 25 appearances for Leipzig this season and is one of several strikers to be credited as a potential Arsenal target in recent weeks. Alexander Isak, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres are just some of the names mentioned on the Gunners rumour mill.
