Premier League make decision on controversial Arsenal referee against Liverpool

The Premier League has announced its match official appointments for the weekend's fixtures, confirming Anthony Taylor will be refereeing again after frustrating Arsenal supporters during their draw with Liverpool.

Wolverhampton Wanderers, perhaps the only Premier League club more annoyed about refereeing decisions than the Gunners, will have Taylor officiating their match against Crystal Palace. The spotlight will still be on the referee, though, as Sky will broadcast the Saturday evening game live.

The decision not to award Arsenal a first-half penalty for a perceived foul on Gabriel Martinelli did not go down well at the Emirates Stadium. Taylor's subsequent adjudging of a foul from Jakub Kiwior in the build-up to Gabriel Jesus firing past Caoimhin Kelleher did not help matters.

Assistant referees Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn will again be part of his team, but last weekend's video assistant referee will not. Michael Salisbury will again be the VAR for the Sunday evening match between Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, the assistant video assistant referee who worked on the Gunners' last league game, Darren Cann, is set to assume the same role for their next one at Newcastle United. Jarred Gillet, meanwhile, will be the video assistant referee a month after officiating the North London Derby.

Last weekend, the Australian referee was the assistant VAR for Aston Villa's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth last Saturday afternoon before being the VAR when Chelsea beat Arsenal's upcoming opponents, Newcastle, at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

John Brooks, who officiated the 1-1 draw between Everton and Fulham last weekend, will be in the middle alongside his assistants Simon Bennett and Dan Robathan. Notably, Cann was his assistant at Goodison Park but will now be the assistant VAR again.
