David Moyes to Everton update as former West Ham boss 'serious contender' amid takeover saga

by · football.london

Former West Ham United manager David Moyes is reportedly being eyed for a return to Premier League football and is on the radar to take over at rivals Everton.

Moyes became a Hammers hero over his two stints as the club's manager, delivering the UEFA Europa Conference League in the 2022/23 campaign.

As his contract expired at the end of last season, the decision was taken by West Ham chiefs to allow the 61-year-old to step aside so a new era could begin. Julen Lopetegui became his successor and with the club sitting 14th on 12 points out of a possible 36, the question is still to be answered if this was the correct chain of events.

In case any supporters would hope that Moyes could return in similar circumstances as he did in 2019, it appears the decision may have to be quickly taken with their Premier League rivals rumoured with interest.

According to The Sun, the Scotsman is being lined up to replace Sean Dyche at Everton under Everton's new American ownership. The Friedkin Group, owners of AS Roma, are the process of acquiring a controlling stake in the Merseyside club.

Moyes enjoyed a decade in management at Goodison Park before he went to Manchester United in 2013, then his West Ham record speaks further volumes for his credentials, so it is said that he could be targeted to go back to his former side.

This would only happen if Dyche is sacked, and Everton are currently 15th in the table, one point behind the Hammers.

It is said the challenge would be an 'appealing' one for Moyes, so long as he receives the correct assurances over a contract, the new owners, their ambitions and the budget he would have to make transfers.
