How many games Myles Lewis-Skelly will miss after Arsenal red card vs West Ham

Arsenal full-back Myles Lewis-Skelly is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a straight red card in the Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The Gunners were a goal down against the Irons following Jarrod Bowen's opener for the away side but Arsenal's afternoon went from bad to worse on 73 minutes. After losing possession to Mohammed Kudus on the halfway line, last man Lewis-Skelly hauled the winger down to the ground.

Initially, the defender was only given a yellow card by referee Craig Pawson but, unsurprisingly, he was called to the pitchside monitor by VAR Peter Bankes. Upon review, Pawson decided to overturn his decision of a yellow card and showed Lewis-Skelly a straight red card.

This decision capped off what was an awful afternoon for the Gunners and now Lewis-Skelly is set for a suspension with the chances of the red card being appealed slim. The 18-year-old was sent off for the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and as such Lewis-Skelly will be handed a one-match ban in the Premier League.

Lewis-Skelly will serve his suspension in midweek when Arsenal travel to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night. However, the defeat for Arsenal is perhaps the more concerning result for the Gunners.

They remain eight points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table and should the Reds beat Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, the gap will open up to 11 points. Arsenal will have a game in-hand on the league leaders which will be played next month when they host Chelsea while Liverpool compete in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.
