Trump says that he will be 'very nice' with China

The US President sounded a conciliatory tone regarding the country's trade disputes with Beijing.

In remarks made overnight, Donald Trump said that he would be "very nice and they’re going to be very nice [to China], and we’ll see what happens.”

He added that Washington's trade levies on Chinese goods would be lowered "substantially, but it won't be zero".

Trump also indicated that he did not see a need to say that he would "play hardball". Neither would he bring up the issue of Covid-19.

US officials would also look into reducing tariffs on China pending talks with Beijing, Reuters reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.

However, no such action would be taken unilaterally.
