All bottles - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
There are five bottles in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. Here’s how to find them all.
by David Craddock · ShacknewsBottles come in handy in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. You can use them to hold all sorts of things, from bugs and fairies to potions and even a special type of fire. There are five bottles to collect; here’s how, and where, to find them.
How to get all bottles
The first bottle is the easiest to get. Upon entering Hyrule Castle Market, look for the potion shop on the east side of the square. Inside, the bottle salesman is freaking out over a loose bug. Talk to him, and he’ll give you a bottle to catch it. Nab the bug, then talk to him again, and he’ll let you keep the bottle.
The second bottle you can get is found at Lon Lon Ranch. However, you’ll need to wake up the owner, Talon, at Hyrule Castle before you can get this bottle. Once you’ve done that, go to the ranch and enter the building on your left. You’ll find Talon sitting with a flock of cuccos. Talk to him, and he’ll offer to let you play a game in which you have to find three super cucco amid the flock of regular chickens (let’s call a spade a spade). It’ll cost you 10 rupees to play, but the reward is worth it.
Once the game begins, you have 30 seconds to pick out the three special cuccos from the normal ones. Trouble is, they all look the same. There are two tricks you can use to find them. First, watch the shadows of the super cuccos after Talon throws them into the air, and go to where they land. Easier said than done. Second, when you pick up a super cucco, Talon will tell you so. If he doesn’t say anything, throw the cucco you picked up to the far side of the room to separate it from the herd so you don’t mistakenly pick it up again.
Once you’ve won, Talon will give you a bottle of Lon Lon Milk good for two uses. Once it’s empty, you can use the bottle to hold whatever you like.
Bottle #3 takes some doing. Go to Kakariko Village and find the cucco lady in the southwest part of town. She’s lost her flock of seven cuccos and needs your help rounding them up. Go find all seven (consult my guide on how to find them) and, once you’ve returned them all to their pen, she’ll reward you with a bottle.
You’ll get the fourth bottle as part of the main quest line. Once you get to Zora Domain, play the diving game and get your Silver Scale, which enables you to dive deeper. Go to the X section of the main body of water, then dive and swim through the opening. You’ll pop up in Lake Hylia, and as you rise to the surface, you’ll notice a shiny object in the water below. Dive again to retrieve it. It’s another bottle with a note inside.
Return to Zora Domain and show the note to King Zora. After he finishes reading it, he’ll let you keep the bottle.
The fifth and final bottle cannot be acquired until you meet three criteria: 1) Link must be an adult, 2) you must have Epona (check out the Shacknews guide for how to get her), and 3) You must have the Fairy Bow from the Forest Temple.
As you ride around Hyrule Field, you should notice some obstacles—usually logs—surrounded by purple fire. Direct Epona to jump over these, and a Big Poe will appear. Take them down by giving chase on Epona and shooting them with two arrows. Each time you take one down, store it in an empty bottle and take it to the poe salesman in the dilapidated remains of Hyrule Castle Market. (You’ll find him just inside the entrance in the room on the right, which used to be full of pots to break.)
The salesman will give you 30 rupees for each Big Poe, plus add 100 points to your total. Accumulate 500 points, and he’ll give you a bottle. Now you have them all!
Believe it or not, collecting all five bottles isn’t the longest quest in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. That honor goes to the Trading Quest, which ends with you receiving the most powerful weapon in the game.
