by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsTake-Two Interactive has officially begun its hunt for the person behind a series of recent GTA 6 leaks. The publisher has issued subpoenas to Discord and Microsoft, seeking records that may help it identify the person responsible for sharing private information pertaining to the upcoming game.
Take-Two Interactive Software filed the subpoena in the Southern District Court of New York on August 20, as reported by Kotaku. “The copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements,” the filing reads. “Take-Two, through its counsel of record, has submitted a sworn declaration confirming that the purpose for which the DMCA subpoena is sought is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers, and that such information will only be used for the purpose of protecting Take-Two’s rights…”
Recent days have seen multiple GTA 6 leaks surface on the internet, including gameplay footage from Rockstar Games’ upcoming title. An individual or individuals referring to themselves as “CyberLeek” have claimed responsibility for the leaks, and have used the publicity to criticize GTA 6’s lack of physical release while promoting their own cryptocurrency.
Rockstar Games is set to share new GTA 6 footage on its own terms next week, during a presentation that will air on Netflix.
