After a stellar Easter weekend, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie landed at around $372.5 million at the global box office, with North America being responsible for around $190.1 million in the film’s five-day run.

Box office numbers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie were posted this week, as shared by Associated Press. The debut puts the Mario Movie sequel squarely at the top of best opening weekends for a film in 2026, beating out Project Hail Mary’s $80.1 million in its 3-day opening.

While The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hit a lot of major milestones in its debut, it didn’t quite overcome the original. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) was able to net $375.6 million in its opening weekend, according to The Numbers, putting it just above the sequel. However, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will also end up having the fifth best animated film opening weekend of all time, sitting just behind the original and ahead of 2019’s Frozen 2, which pulled in $358.5 million globally.

The original Super Mario Movie finished its theatrical run at $1.36 billion worldwide. As we watch for more updates such as where sequel finishes, stay tuned to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie topic for updates.
