How to find the hookshot - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
You need the hookshot to progress in Ocarina of Time remake’s main quest. Here’s how and where to find it.
by David Craddock · ShacknewsWhen Link becomes an adult, the mysterious Sheik informs him that he’ll need a tool to continue his quest. This tool is the hookshot, and it can be found in Kakariko Village—but you have to beat a ghost in a race to get it. Video games, am I right?
How to find the hookshot
After talking to Sheik for the first time, go to Kakariko Village and head into the graveyard. Turn left from where you entered and notice the large tree. There’s a gravesite beside it. Pull back the headstone and drop into the pit.
You’ll find yourself in the presence of Dampe the Gravedigger—his ghost, that is. He passed away over the seven years Link spent asleep, but don’t worry, he’s still having fun. In fact, he invites Link to join in: Keep up with him in a race, and he’ll give you a prize. That prize is the hookshot.
This is a race… sort of. You don’t have to beat Dampe. All you have to do is keep up with him. If he loses sight of you for too long, you lose. Just avoid the flames he tosses down and keep him in your line of sight. Once you finish, a chest will materialize, and you’ll find the hookshot inside.
Fun fact: If you return to Dampe and finish this same obstacle course in under a minute, he’ll reward you with a piece of heart. Use the dash command (hold A) to move at your fastest speed.
Kakariko Village’s graveyard holds all sorts of secrets. For instance, did you know you can find a free Hylian Shield there?
