Dispatch has been censored on Nintendo Switch consoles

AdHoc states that the team worked with Nintendo to ensure Dispatch met the criteria to release on the platform.

Dispatch, Shacknews Game of the Year 2025, has been censored on Nintendo Switch consoles. The game features various scenes where human anatomy can be seen and, on other platforms, players have the option to censor these moments. The Nintendo Switch version does not offer this; instead, it is censored out of the gate.

Dispatch dominated online conversation at the end of last year as players soaked up the episodic superhero game. It’s now available on Nintendo Switch consoles, but players have noticed that the game is censored, with no option to disable it.

AdHoc issued a statement to Eurogamer, noting that the team worked with Nintendo to ensure that Dispatch met the criteria to release on the consoles.

Different platforms have different content criteria, and submissions are evaluated individually. We worked with Nintendo to ensure the content within the title met the criteria to release on their platforms, but the core narrative and gameplay experience remains identical to the original release,

AdHoc’s statement seems to indicate that it was Nintendo’s decision as to whether or not the game is censored. Some online users have pointed to the likes of Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, both of which feature nudity and have the same ESRB rating as Dispatch: Mature +17.

A user on social media shared a screenshot of a conversation with someone who claims to have spoken with Nintendo support. The text from the alleged support response reads:

Understood. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! Consumer feedback is very important to us, so we’ll make your comments available to other departments here at Nintendo of America to use as they see fit. In this case as the developers are in charge of the content that will be on the game, you can also reach out to AdHoc Studio as they are the publisher of the game in order to let the  know that there are some things to improve in their game.”

It’s a fairly boilerplate response. While AdHoc is the developer and it ultimately decides what’s in the game, some things may need to be removed or censored to be allowed on certain platforms. All of it’s a bit of an odd situation. Stay tuned to our Dispatch page for more information.
