Kanowit tops Sarawak API readings at 226 as of 4pm, 14 others ‘Unhealthy’
by Desiree David · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Sept 22): Kanowit recorded the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in Sarawak at 226 as of 4pm today, placing the district in the ‘Very Unhealthy’ category.
According to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), 14 of the 21 air quality monitoring stations statewide recorded ‘Unhealthy’ API levels, while six recorded ‘Moderate’ readings.
Apart from Kanowit, the highest ‘Unhealthy’ readings were recorded in Sibu and Betong at 175, followed by Sri Aman and Mukah at 172, Sarikei at 160, Kuching and Serian at 159, Lubok Antu at 158, Belaga at 157, Samarahan at 155, Bintulu at 154, Samalaju at 153 and ILP Miri at 121.
Kapit also recorded an ‘Unhealthy’ API reading of 104.
Meanwhile, ‘Moderate’ air quality was recorded in Miri and Tebedu at 96, Lundu at 86, Limbang at 85, Lawas at 74 and Bario at 65.
No monitoring station recorded API readings in the ‘Hazardous’ or ‘Very Hazardous’ categories as of 4pm.
Under the API classification, readings between 101 and 200 are considered ‘Unhealthy’, while readings between 201 and 300 are classified as ‘Very Unhealthy’.
