Premier leads delegation to Germany, France to advance Sarawak’s green energy agenda
by marilyn ten · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Sept 8): Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is currently on a three-day working visit to Germany and France to advance Sarawak’s green energy agenda and strengthen its position as a regional and global clean energy hub.
The official visit is in line Sarawak’s commitment to building strategic international networks in achieving the agenda under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, according to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
Abang Johari, together with the Sarawak delegation, arrived in Berlin yesterday (Sept 7) at 6.40pm local time.
Accompanying him on the trip are Utility and Telecommunication Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Utility and Telecommunication Minister (Sarawak Energy and Petros) Dato Ibrahim Baki, Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability permanent secretary Datu Abang Ahmad Abang Morni, and Sarawak Energy group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili.
The Premier and his delegation will be paying a visit to the Siemens Energy headquarters in Huttenstraße, Berlin today (Sept 8).
The visit begins with a meeting with executive vice president for Global Functions Juha Pankakoshi, followed by tours of several key Siemens Energy facilities, namely the Electrolyser Factory, Gas Turbine Plant, and Innovation Centre.
On Sept 9, Abang Johari will be attending the International Forum on Pumped Storage Hydropower at the Unesco House in Paris where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address.
In his address at the forum themed ‘Pump it up! Powering a Decarbonised World’, he is expected to highlight Sarawak’s aspirations to position itself as a global leader in green energy and a key producer of hydrogen for international markets.
The Premier is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with French Minister of Industry and Energy Marc Ferracci, and International Hydropower Association (IHA) president Malcolm Turnbull.
He will also be visiting the Électricité de France (EDF) headquarters at Avenue de Wagram, Paris, before departing for home.
