Prince William Will Reportedly Ban Prince Andrew From Coronation and All Royal Events

  • Prince William plans to ban Prince Andrew from "all elements of royal life," including the coronation.
  • Prince Andrew just announced that he'll stop using his "Duke of York" title.
  • The announcement is, apparently, "largely symbolic."

Prince Andrew just gave up his "Duke of York" title, but Prince William will be taking things several steps further once he's king. By which we mean he's completely banning his disgraced uncle from royal life—including the coronation.

According to The Times, Prince William was "not satisfied" with Andrew's statement, and plans to deal with his problem uncle ASAP. As they put it, "Andrew will be banned from all elements of royal life. He will excluded from public and private royal events, including the coronation, and banned from most state occasions."

In case you missed Andrew's statement, he said, "In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life. With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."

However, Andrew giving up "Duke of York" appears to be largely symbolic, as royal expert Sharon Carpenter tells E! News that "removing his dukedom officially would legally require an act of Parliament and would be more complex than this immediate action. For Andrew to be legally stripped of his dukedom before his death, it would require statutory action—a vote by Parliament."
