Why Taylor Swift Is Skipping the 2026 Emmy Awards

· Cosmopolitan

Taylor Swift was nominated for a slew of Emmys this year, but she’s not expected to be at the official awards ceremony tonight (September 14).

Tay’s 2025 concert movie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour—The Final Show, was nominated for five awards—including Best Variety Special (Prerecorded) and Best Directing for a Variety Special. Unfortunately, she didn’t win, but either way: Her categories were announced at the Creative Arts Emmys, and they were held on Saturday, September 5. In other words, Taylor’s attendance at the Primetime Emmy Awards seems pretty unlikely (although it’s always possible she could make a mid-show appearance).

But on top of her categories being previously announced, there’s ALSO the fact that Travis Kelce plays his very first game of the NFL season tonight. He and the Kansas City Chiefs are going up against the Denver Broncos, and it just happens to be a home game for Trav, meaning Taylor is very likely to be there supporting him. (Note: Historically, Taylor only attends games at Arrowhead Stadium throughout the season. This is seemingly for security reasons—her team is very familiar with Arrowhead.)

If Taylor is at Travis’s game tonight (stay tuned!), this will mark one of their first public appearances as a couple since getting married at Madison Square Garden back in July. No offense to the Emmys, but we WILL be tuning in.
