Family lawyer raises questions over Samarth Singh's surrender
Even after Samarth Singh appeared before the Jabalpur court, Twisha Sharma’s family questioned whether it could legally be considered a surrender. Advocate Anurag Srivastav, who is representing the family, told reporters that the High Court had directed the accused to surrender either before the trial court or before the investigating officer in Bhopal.
According to the lawyer, the District Court in Jabalpur had no authority in the matter. He also alleged that Samarth Singh was receiving protection because he is the son of a retired judge.
"The court has ordered today that (accused) Samarth Singh either surrender before the trial court or the investigating officer. The trial court is in Bhopal. Besides, there is the investigating officer, the SIT, and today an order has been issued that the CBI is involved. Look at how the son of a retired judge is being protected. He has no authority to surrender in the District Court, Jabalpur. We learned that he has come to surrender," he said.
What is the Twisha Sharma death case?
The Twisha Sharma death case is linked to the suspicious death of a 33-year-old model and actor in Bhopal on May 12. The case quickly gained national attention because of allegations of dowry harassment and claims that influential people may have affected the local investigation.
Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area just five months after marrying Samarth Singh. Following her death, an FIR was registered against Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, a retired district judge. The case includes charges related to dowry death and cruelty.
Family alleges harassment and assault
Twisha Sharma's family has claimed that she was either murdered or forced to die by suicide due to continuous dowry demands and physical assault after her marriage. The family also alleged that several injury marks were found on her body and that these injuries were not properly explained in the first post-mortem report.
These allegations, along with concerns over the influence of high-profile individuals linked to the case, led to growing public pressure and demands for a deeper investigation. With the High Court now ordering a second autopsy and stricter monitoring of the probe, the case is expected to remain under close public and legal scrutiny in the coming days.
