Aaron Lukas designated as acting Director of National Intelligence
To ensure a swift operational transition for America’s vast intelligence community, President Trump announced that Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas will act as ODNI chief.
"Her highly respected Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, Aaron Lukas, will serve as Acting Director of National Intelligence," stated Trump in his announcement.
Lukas, a veteran of the intelligence community with previous experience working as an analyst and senior aide for Trump’s National Security Council in the first term, will head up the ODNI agency during a time of increased global surveillance and tension.
Political differences between ideological policies in context of abrupt resignation
Though Gabbard's personal resignation letter stressed that she "cannot in good conscience" request her husband to endure an intense battle against cancer on his own, while also managing an equally tough agency, the truth is that she has been experiencing friction in politics in the last couple of months.
An ex-combatant and anti-war advocate, Gabbard has been witnessing increasing tensions between herself and the West Wing concerning the country's hawkish military policies against the war with Iran. This is clear from the testimony she gave recently to Capitol Hill, which stated Iran was not trying to rebuild its nuclear program after facing air strikes by the United States, contrary to what President Trump claimed.
