An Indian Air Force microlight trainer plane crashed into a pond while flying during a standard training mission in the city of Prayagraj. However, both people inside were able to safely escape. This occurred in a residential part of the city.

The crash occurred near the airport and triggered an emergency response from the authorities and the Indian Air Force.

Emergency Landing In Central Prayagraj

The two-seater aircraft reportedly lost balance while flying before diving into the water body behind KP College, situated near Vidyawahini School. Witnesses stated that the aircraft was seen flying low in a circular motion before diving abruptly into the water.

Black smoke was seen billowing from the accident scene, where people had gathered to offer their help. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) divers and fire engines also arrived shortly afterward.

Rescue Missions And Safety Of Pilots

It would appear from initial reports that the engine failed the aircraft shortly after taking off from the headquarters of the Central Air Command, which is called Bamraoli Airport.

Pilot Status

Both pilots are in good condition and have been rescued from the partially submerged aircraft. They are now undergoing medical evaluations.

Property Damage: According to IAF sources, there have been no reported losses of life or damage to civilian properties in this densely populated area.

Investigation Ordered

The IAF has directed a Court of Inquiry (CoI) to determine the cause of the accident. Although technical failure may be the cause, an investigation will be carried out to determine the order of events for the crash. Extraction operations of the wreckage from the pond have already begun.

Flashback: Previous IAF Training Accidents

This is in line with another incident in November 2025 at the Pilatus PC-7 Mk II basic trainer aircraft in Tambaram near Chennai. Tambaram Crash: A pilot, on a training flight, had to eject due to a technical problem in the plane and landed safely on November 14, 2025.

Safety Record: Although the Indian Air Force is very strict about training procedures, the safety record has lately been called into question, especially concerning the aging trainers.
