In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Kamal Dhyani, died after falling into a deep pit dug for Delhi Jal Board (DJB) work on Joginder Singh Marg in Janakpuri, West Delhi. The accident occurred late Thursday night as he was returning home from his job in Rohini.

The Delhi Police have registered an FIR and are investigating all those involved in the DJB work at the site. The body and motorcycle have been recovered.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) West, Sharad Bhaskar, said, "A pit was dug for some work of the Delhi Jal Board. Last night, 25-year-old Kamal Dhyani's bike fell into this pit, and he unfortunately died. We will investigate all stakeholders of this DJB work."

The Delhi Jal Board expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the family. In a statement, the Board said that preliminary findings indicate the road under repair had barricades and green mesh at the site, including around the pit. It added that a committee has been formed to investigate the circumstances and adherence to safety norms, and assured that strict action would be taken against any official found negligent.

"Preliminary investigation has revealed that the road where the work was underway had been closed using barricades and green mesh, and the pit located at the accident site had also been secured with green mesh. To conduct a detailed inquiry into the circumstances of the incident and compliance with prescribed public safety standards, a committee has been constituted, which will submit its report by this evening. If the investigation finds any negligence on the part of any Delhi Jal Board official or employee, strict action will be taken against them," the Delhi Jal Board said in a statement.

The Delhi Jal Board stated that, following recent incidents like the Noida accident, it has been routinely inspecting barricades and other essential safety measures at all worksites. It has appealed to the public to report any unsafe worksites to the DJB's toll-free number 1916 so that immediate corrective action can be taken.
