Kerala Local Body Elections 2025: NDA Emerges Largest Force In Thiruvananthapuram, UDF Wins Kollam And Kochi

BJP’s R Sreelekha, a retired IPS officer and the first woman to join the Kerala cadre, has won from the Sasthamangalam division in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

In a historic first, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has emerged as the single largest political force in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, reaching the halfway mark in the newly expanded 101-member civic body.

Kerala Local Body Election 2025: Key Results So Far

1. Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation

   • NDA emerged as the single largest political force, securing 50 seats.
   • LDF finished second with 29 seats.
   • UDF won 19 wards, while independent candidates secured 2 wards.
   • UDF also won the Palayam ward, marking a key victory.
   • BJP’s R Sreelekha, a retired IPS officer and the first woman in the Kerala cadre, won from the Sasthamangalam division.
      

2. Palakkad Municipality

   • NDA retained control after a close contest with UDF.
      

3. Tripunithura Municipality (Ernakulam District)

   • NDA narrowly defeated the LDF by just one seat.
      

4. Thrissur District

   • BJP won 18 of 46 wards in Kodungallur Municipality.
   • Secured 8 seats in Thrissur Municipal Corporation.
   • Won 2 wards each in Guruvayoor and Vadakkancherry municipalities.
   • Won 7 wards in Kunnamkulam, 6 in Irinjalakuda, and 1 in Chalakudy Municipality.
      

5. Kollam Municipal Corporation

   • UDF ended LDF’s 25-year dominance, winning 22 seats.
      

6. Kochi Corporation

   • UDF comfortably crossed the majority mark, winning 44 seats against the required 39.
      

7. Kannur Corporation

   • In a setback to LDF, UDF secured the majority in the Kannur Corporation.
      

8. Vizhinjam Ward

   • Polling in one ward at Vizhinjam was postponed following the death of a candidate.

Kerala Local Body Elections 2025

Local body elections were held across 1,199 civic institutions in Kerala, including grama panchayats, block panchayats, district panchayats, municipalities, and municipal corporations. More than 23,573 wards were contested in the polls.

Kerala Local Body Elections 2020

In the previous local body elections held in 2020, the LDF had dominated the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation by winning 52 wards. The NDA had then put up a strong performance as well, securing 33 wards, while the UDF had managed to win only 10 seats.
