Matt Damon Eyes ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Directing Duo’s Next Movie After Ryan Gosling Drops Out

by · Variety

Matt Damon is in talks to star in the next movie from “Everything Everywhere All at Once” directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. He’s being eyed for the lead after Ryan Gosling, who had been circling the role, exited the project due to creative differences and scheduling conflicts.

Plot details remain under wraps, with production expected to begin in Los Angeles this summer. Universal, which is backing the untitled film, recently delayed the release date from June 12, 2027 to Nov. 19 of the same year.

Universal declined to comment on Damon’s casting, which was first reported by Deadline.

This film is the first from the Daniels since “Everything Everywhere All at Once” became a critical and commercial smash, earning more than $100 million at the box office and scoring seven Oscars including best picture. “Everything Everywhere All at Once” starred Michelle Yeoh as a struggling laundromat owner who, while being audited by the IRS, discovers she has to connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent cataclysmic destruction. Daniels, as the duo refers to themselves, made their feature directorial debut with 2016’s “Swiss Army Man,” a fantasy comedy starring Paul Dano alongside Daniel Radcliffe as a flatulent corpse. They rose to prominence by directing the viral music video for Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What.”

Damon will next star in director Christopher Nolan’s historical epic “The Odyssey,” which hits theaters in July. Damon plays Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and the story chronicles his long and perilous return home after the Trojan War. Tom Holland portrays his son Telemachus while Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal round out the ensemble.
