by K.J. Yossman · VarietyIt’s the summer for Greek mythology.
While Christopher Nolan’s screen adaptation of Homer’s epic “The Odyssey” is set to take the box office by storm, French producer Mediawan is rolling out a high-concept unscripted format called “Trojan Horse.”
Created by Kinetic Content, Mediawan has secured option rights to the original show, which it is now rolling out across Europe, including France, Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland.

“The format takes the legendary deception at the heart of the Trojan Horse story and reimagines it as a contemporary studio game in which teams must decide whether the giant horse set before them contains a valuable gift, or a dangerous trap,” reads the logline.
Kinetic Content is a U.S. production company founded in 2010. It is led by CEO Chris Coelen. Mediawan recently acquired Kinetic’s parent group The North Road Company.
“Joining Mediawan has allowed us the great opportunity to develop and share original IP across an extraordinary network of world-class producers,” said Coelen. “‘Trojan Horse’ is the kind of format that travels; it’s instantly understandable, highly adaptable and designed to engage audiences anywhere. We’re thrilled to see our partners across Europe bring this format to life!”
Elisabeth d’Arvieu, Mediawan’s group CCO and CEO of Mediawan Pictures said: “The acquisition of these options further underscores Mediawan’s ambition to foster closer creative and commercial collaboration across its worldwide production footprint. By aligning several group companies around a single high-potential format, we aim to build momentum for local adaptation while benefiting from shared expertise, coordinated development and a collective approach to premium unscripted IP.”
