Filmax Boards AI-Driven 3D ‘DinoGames’ for EFM

by · Variety

Filmax has taken international sales rights to “DinoGames,” a 3D-animated feature directed by Goya winners Carlos F. de Vigo and Lorena Ares. It will show first images to buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market.

Produced by Spain’s Dr. Platypus & Ms. Wombat with Belgium’s Beside, the film is set inside a video game, where a new AI system makes characters sentient, turning play into a living universe that evolves and interacts with humans.

It follows siblings Codi and Vera a year after their mother disappears at her hi-tech lab. Lured back to test an AI Universe Simulator, Codi triggers a trap set by Pinkolaf, a vengeful AI born inside the game and able to manipulate real-world electronics. A system error drags the kids and their aunt into DinoGames, as a friend races outside to reopen a portal.

Backing includes RTVE, Spain’s Ministry of Culture, Eurimages, and regional partners in Navarre, Ourense and Wallonia.

“This is the adventure of fantasy and friendship we were all dreaming of seeing on the big screen,” Ares said. De Vigo added: “What happens when the code awakens?” Filmax international head Iván Díaz called the pickup “a strategic move for Berlin,” citing international upside for 3D animation.
