Laufey Signs With Interscope Records/ Verve Records (EXCLUSIVE)
by Jem Aswad · VarietyTwo-time Grammy-winner Laufey has signed with Universal Music Group’s Interscope Records and Verve Records in an arrangement that reflects the fast-rising singer-songwriter’s combination of pop and jazz music.
The move follows her six years as an independent artist, during which she’s amassed more than 7 billion combined global streams across three studio albums; been named one of Time’s 2025 Women of the Year; been honored as an Icelandic Knight in her home country by its president; seen her first children’s book, “Mei Mei the Bunny,” become a New York Times Bestseller; performed backed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra and the China Philharmonic Orchestra; and recently completed a massive global tour.

In 2024, she was honored at Variety’s annual Hitmakers event with the Crossover Artist of the Year award, which was presented by her close friend, British singer Raye. She is currently at work on new music.
Perhaps most notably, she’s introduced thousands of people from new generations to jazz and classical music. Variety’s Chris Willman wrote of her 2024 performance at the Hollywood Bowl, “For someone who is so steeped in the classics of the ’40s and ’50s, her audiences have been, somewhat surprisingly, almost entirely comprised of under-30s and especially under-25s… many of them virtually cosplaying as Laufey, aping her signature stylishness.”
More recently, Variety’s Jem Aswad wrote of her dazzling set at the Coachella festival last April, “With a flawlessly executed performance that saw her accompanied by an ace jazz group, a string quartet and a troupe of dancers, [Laufey] moved with ease from frontperson to piano to guitar — peeling off complex jazz chords while singing very complicated melodies — and even, at one point, cello. She’s not only making the old new again, she’s making it cool, and with captivating charm.”
Last month, Laufey celebrated the arts with the fourth annual “A Very Laufey Day,” for which she curated events in 75 cities across 25+ countries. The festivities featured live performances plus events in museums, libraries, bookstores, cafes/coffee shops, yogurt/ice cream shops and more. All proceeds from the event’s brand collaborations and merch sales went to the Laufey Foundation, which makes education and resources more accessible to young musicians.
