U2 Releases ‘Street of Dreams,’ First Single From Upcoming Album, the Band’s First All-New Effort in Nine Years
by Chris Willman · VarietyU2 is edging ever-so-closer to officially announcing the group’s first full-length collection of new material in nine years. Heralding it is the first single from that forthcoming effort, “Street of Dreams,” which hit DSPs as a single and music video early Tuesday.
The streets are not the only thing that has no name; even with this first single coming out, no title has been announced yet for the album. A release date has not been given, either, although the album is being promised as arriving some time this year.

If fans had to bet on a time the new album might come out, September might be the likeliest time, at least if the band is feeling at all sentimental. The group will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of their formation that month.
Cliqua directed the music video. It will come as no surprise to fans that the video was shot in Mexico City. In May, the band was photographed and video-ed while performing their new song atop a school bus graffitied by Mexican artist Chavis Mármol. While they were south of the border, the group also attended the 2026 Street Child World Cup Finals Tournament at Parque Ecológico Lago de Texcoco. The new song contains a few lines in Spanish (see the full lyrics, below).
The forthcoming album will be U2’s first full-length collection of new studio material since “Songs of Surrender” came out in December 2017. However, the band has made significant additions to its discography as of late, just not in the full album format. The Irishmen released two conceptual EPs this year — the protest-song-themed “Days of Ash,” which got a surprise release on Feb. 18, aka Ash Wednesday, followed by the more upbeat “Easter Lily” on April 3. Each of these EPs contained six new songs, but the band made it clear that in both cases, this was material that would not be appearing on the coming album.
The group’s last album in any form was 2023’s “Songs of Surrender,” which had the group re-recording 40 songs from its catalog in a stripped-down format.
Lyrics for the new song:
God hear me shout
Lend your ear to my prayer
When I’m far from anywhere
Down to my last breath of air
God hear me shout
Lend your ear to my prayer
When I’m far from anywhere
Down to my last breath of air
La calle, calle de los sueños
All the doors are open on the street of dreams
La calle, calle de los sueños
Broken are the chosen on the street of dreams
Be here
Be free
Be yourself
And then free me
Your fate?
(Gonna fight it)
Your trust?
(Won’t be denied)
This bus?
(Gonna ride it)
To the street of dreams
La calle, calle de los sueños
Justice, an obsession on the street of dreams
La calle, calle de los sueños
Love in a procession down the street of dreams
Break out
Break through
Break in
Your dream needs you
Your life?
(Gonna find you)
Your fear?
(Not gonna blind you)
Random angels?
(Gonna guide you)
To the street of dreams
La calle, calle de los sueños
All the doors are open on the street of dreams
La calle, calle de los sueños
Broken are the chosen on the street of dreams
Don’t you give up on your dream for the many not just the few
Don’t you give up and your dreams won’t give up on you
La calle, calle de los sueños
Justice an obsession on the street of dreams
La calle, calle de los sueños
Love in a procession down the street of dreams
God hear me shout
Lend your ear to my prayer
When I’m far from anywhere
Down to my last breath of air
