KK Mart Outlet in Universiti Malaya That Went Viral for ‘Halal’ Ham Sandwich Issue Vandalised with Red Paint

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

One of the KK Mart branches at Universiti Malaya (UM) was vandalised as the outlet’s entryway was splashed with red paint on Tuesday (January 21).

According to a report by Sinar Harian, the President of the Universiti Malaya New Youth Association (Umany), Lim Jing Jet, shared that the malicious act was committed by unknown parties and it is uncertain whether it is related to the recent ‘‘Halal’ Ham and Cheese sandwich issue.

“This incident raises serious concerns about campus security. If even a chain store like KK Mart can be vandalised within the campus area, how does this reflect the safety of other areas (on campus) and the well-being of the students?”

“The university must take concrete steps to improve security, such as installing more surveillance cameras, increasing patrols and collaborating with the Universiti Malaya Students’ Union (KMUM) to create a safer campus environment,” he said.

Prior to this, UM had closed down two 24-hour KK Mart outlets on their campus for investigations, following the discovery of sandwiches believed to contain pork.

The Brickfields District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood, shared that his department has since received a report on the vandalism incident and will investigate this case under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
