Driver of Overturned Container That Killed a 21yo Woman Denied Bail, PN Says They Will Support His Family
by Renushara · WORLD OF BUZZThe incident of a 21-year-old woman’s death after a container overturned and crushed her vehicle has taken the nation by storm. The incident happened on Wednesday (November 13), when a trailer driver took a sharp turn at the Jalan Bukit Tengah traffic light in Penang, causing the container to topple.
Following this, the driver was arrested and brought to the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court Complex, where he showed reporters the ‘peace‘ sign as they attempted to capture his face on camera.
Now, it has been revealed that the driver was denied bail as his actions of showing ‘peace’ signs were viewed as a display of no remorse. Due to this, Perikatan Nasional has decided that they will support the driver’s family.
Speaking during yesterday’s session of Dewan Rakyat (November 19), Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu) shared that, out of the 74,000 prison capacity, 28,000 people are currently in prisons across Malaysia due to them being remanded while facing court cases.
He went on to explain that, by refusing the driver bail, the justice system has added another person to the number of those remanded in prisons.
With that, he revealed that his party, Perikatan Nasional, will support the driver’s family though he did not mention to what extent.
“A lorry driver, who has a small income, was not allowed bail. Who is going to support his family and more? We, Perikatan Nasional, will offer aid to this lorry driver’s family,” he said, leading those present from Perikatan Nasional to clap in support of his statement.
