Man charged with murder following assault victim's death

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a man who was assaulted in Co Tyrone earlier this month.

Stephen Holmes, 31, died in hospital last Saturday following the attack in the Beechmount Village area of Strabane in the early hours of Monday 3 February.

Last week, prior to Mr Holmes' death, 31-year-old Dylan McCrossan, of Beechmount Village, appeared in court charged with grievous bodily harm.

Today, at Strabane Magistrates' Court, District Judge Oonagh Mullan was asked by the prosecution to withdraw that charge and a charge of murder was laid.

Mr McCrossan was not in court for the hearing.

The judge remanded the accused in continuing custody to appear in court again by video link on 6 March.
