Three arrested over Offaly fire released without charge

Three people who were arrested, as part of an investigation into the deaths of a four-year-old boy and his grand-aunt in Co Offaly last year, have been released without charge.

Tadgh Farrell and 60-year-old Mary Holt died in a fire at a house in Castleview Park in Edenderry, after a petrol bomb was thrown through the front window on 6 December.

Tadgh was visiting his grandmother and his grand-aunt at the time of the attack. His remains and Ms Holt's remains were discovered in the front room.

Earlier this week gardaí arrested two men in their 20s and a man in his 30s as part of the investigation. A boy aged in his teens was also arrested.

One of the men in his 20s and the man in his 30s as well as the teenage boy were released without charge, gardaí said this evening.

A file will now be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The other man in his 20s remains in garda custody this evening, gardaí said.

A fifth person, also in his 20s, appeared in court yesterday, charged in connection with the fire.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
