Witness appeal as body of woman, 40s, found in Killarney

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after the body of a woman in her 40s was found in Killarney, Co Kerry.

Gardaí believe she died as a result of force being used.

The woman's body was discovered at her home on the Muckross Road at lunchtime by a family member, who raised the alarm.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A senior officer has been appointed to lead the investigation, and a family liaison officer has also been appointed.

The garda technical bureau from Dublin is en-route to the scene, which has been sealed off.

Investigating gardaí will await the results of the post-mortem examination to direct the course of the investigation but the resources of a murder inquiry are already being put together for this case.

The post-mortem examination will take place at University Hospital Kerry.

An incident room has been established at Killarney Garda Station.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was in the Muckross Road area of Killarney between yesterday evening and this afternoon and who may have camera footage to make it available to them.
