Post-mortem due after man's body found at Cork apartment
by Jennie O'Sullivan, https://www.facebook.com/rtenews/ · RTE.ieA post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body of a man found dead at a duplex apartment in Midleton in east Cork yesterday evening.
One line of enquiry being followed is that the man, a 66-year-old Polish national, died and his wife became ill after drinking home-produced spirits.
Paramedics who arrived soon afterwards pronounced the man dead at the scene.
His wife, who was found conscious but unwell, was treated at the scene before being taken to Cork University Hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.
The man's body was removed from the apartment just after 8.30pm last night and taken to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is to take place.
Gardaí are treating the death as "unexplained" pending the outcome of the post-mortem examination, which is likely to take place later today.
A garda remained on duty at the address overnight.
A Garda Technical Unit who had been carrying out a forensic examination of the two-storey apartment completed their examination and left shortly before 9pm.
The Coroner's Office has been notified.
