Prisoner escapes custody while on escort to hospital

The Irish Prison Service has confirmed that a prisoner has escaped from custody while on escort to Tallaght Hospital.

Gardaí have been notified of the incident and said the man, who is in his 40s, absconded in the early hours of this morning.

It's understood the prisoner had been receiving care at the hospital for a number of days.

He remains at large.

The IPS and gardaí have said they are now investigating the circumstances of the escape.
