Nine people killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza

Israeli strikes have killed at least nine Palestinians, including five family members, in separate attacks on Gaza, according to health officials.

Fifteen people were injured after Israeli planes launched strikes on four apartments, including the family's home, before dawn.

One of the strikes killed five members of the same family, including the parents, the officials added.

They said that a girl was the only survivor of the attack.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incidents.

A video showed a damaged building and debris scattered onto the road.

In footage circulated on Palestinian social media, people were seen going into one apartment set ablaze by an Israeli strike to try to recover bodies with blankets in their hands.

"They say the war is over but the war is not over," Khalil Batran, a neighbour of the family, said.

"There is no safety in Gaza ... Every day they fire at us from there and strike us with missiles. It's futile."

A ceasefire has failed to halt attacks on Gaza and left Israel in control of over half the territory in a conflict that began with Hamas attacks on southern Israel on 7 October 2023.

Indirect talks on implementing the second phase of the truce, to include the militant ⁠group's disarmament and Israeli army withdrawals, are deadlocked.

Israel says its strikes are aimed at thwarting imminent attacks, adding that it allows aid and goods to flow into Gaza.

Some 930 Palestinians have died in Israeli strikes since ⁠the ceasefire began, according to Gaza health officials. The figures do not distinguish between combatants and civilians.

Four Israeli soldiers have been killed by militants during the ⁠same period, Israel's military said.

More than 72,000 people in Gaza have died since the war started, most of them civilians, the territory's health authorities said.

Israel says it takes extraordinary measures to avoid civilian casualties.

Hamas killed 1,200 people and captured 251 Israeli and foreign hostages during October 2023 attacks on the country, Israel said.
