European fisheries ministers to meet in Cork

Fisheries ministers from across the EU are gathering in Cork today for a two-day informal meeting.

The meeting is part of Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the EU and the plenary session will be chaired by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon.

At the plenary session in Cork City Hall tomorrow, ministers will discuss how the EU can sustainably develop its fisheries and aquaculture, as well as generational renewal in both sectors.

The meeting will also be attended by the EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, and by the Vice-Chair of the European Parliament Fisheries Committee, Paulo Do Nascimento Cabral, as well as by delegations from across EU member states.

The ministers will also visit Charles Fort in Kinsale later today. The fort, which was built in 1682, is where the Wild Atlantic Way begins.
