Investigation into alleged abduction, assault in Cork

An investigation is under way into the alleged assault and abduction of a man in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man, who is in his 20s, was assaulted and then abducted from his home in Maryborough Hill in the Douglas area of Cork at around 2.30am.

He was put into a vehicle but managed to escape when it crashed at Curraheen Park in Bishopstown.

The man was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was travelling in the Maryborough Hill or Curraheen Park areas around the time of the incident, and who may have video footage (including dash-cam or helmet-cam), to contact Togher Garda Station on 021-494-7120, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or any garda station.
