LSU flies Lane Kiffin’s family in for tour as coaching pursuit heats up
· New York PostLSU’s pursuit of Lane Kiffin is intensifying.
The university flew members of the Ole Miss coach’s family in from Oxford, Miss., on Monday morning to tour Baton Rouge, according to The Advocate.
Louisianasports.net reported Kiffin’s ex-wife, Layla, was touring the city.
The pair, who share three kids, have reportedly reconciled since a 2016 divorce.
Kiffin, 50, has been linked to the LSU job since Brian Kelly got fired Oct. 26 after a home loss to Texas A&M.
Ole Miss is 10-1 and currently ranked No. 5 in the AP poll in Kiffin’s sixth season running the program.
Florida also reportedly is interested in Kiffin after firing Billy Napier last month.
As LSU searches for a new coach, the school remains embroiled in drama with Kelly over his $54 million buyout.
Kelly is suing the school as he seeks the entire buyout after reportedly rejecting settlement offers.
The suit alleges LSU is attempting to fire the coach “for cause,” though it’s unclear what their reasoning would be.
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry has been looming over the school’s decision-making.
He publicly blasted athletic director Scott Woodward in the wake of Kelly’s firing, and Woodward himself was then promptly let go.
Kiffin has seemed settled in at Ole Miss after a long, winding career, which included him becoming the Raiders head coach in 2007 at just 31 years old.
He lasted just four games into his second season.
He spent one year as the head coach of the University of Tennessee and coached USC for four years before working as Alabama’s offensive coordinator for three seasons.
Kiffin became a head coach again in 2017, with Florida Atlantic, and led them for three seasons before taking over at Ole Miss in 2020.
He is 115-53 overall as a head coach and 5-4 in bowl games.
