Andrew Garfield would only return as Spider-Man under these conditions

Once a Spider-Man, always a Spider-Man.

Andrew Garfield confirmed he’d reprise his role as the Marvel superhero in a future movie — under a few conditions.

“For sure, I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing, if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into,” he told Esquire in an interview published Wednesday.

“I love that character, and it brings joy,” Garfield added. “If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return.”

Garfield made his debut as Peter Parker in 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” and returned for the sequel, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” in 2014.

Both films were directed by Marc Webb and starred Emma Stone as Peter’s love interest, Gwen Stacy.

Garfield and Stone dated for four years while they worked together.

In the Esquire story, Garfield noted that his “Spider-Man” franchise was “left dangling” when a third film never materialized.

Luckily, Garfield got to suit up as the web-slinger again in 2021 for Tom Holland’s third “Spider-Man” film, “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

“It was really healing for me,” Garfield said about reprising the role alongside Tobey Maguire, who played the OG Peter Parker in Sam Raimi’s trilogy.

In July, there were rumors that Garfield was preparing to play Spider-Man again after Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed that a new movie about the superhero was in the works.

However, Garfield shut the rumors down last month while at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting his new film, “We Live in Time.”

“I mean, like the internet is a big place,” the actor told IndieWire. “I think there’s a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks.”

“So you might have been duped, I’m afraid,” he added.

Holland, 28, is expected to return for a fourth movie in his “Spider-Man” series, which also stars his girlfriend, Zendaya.

In April, the British actor told Deadline, “The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films. I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more.”

“We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be,” Holland further said. “But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.”

Destin Daniel Cretton is reportedly in talks to direct “Spider-Man 4.” He previously helmed Marvel’s own “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”
