Mailman who uncovered NJ home massacre recounts chilling sign: ‘I thought it was weird’

The New Jersey postal worker who alerted cops to three dead bodies in a home on his route Friday has described finding a chilling note left for him about the massacre inside.

Dom Clements told The Post on Saturday he was working his route in Mount Holly when he found a cryptic ominous sign on the door of a ramshackle home reading “9-1-1 Inside” above crude drawings of two sad faces with Xs for eyes.

“I thought it was weird, because the only person that would have been able to see that sign would have been me, ’cause I’m the only one that goes to that house every day,” Clements said. “And it’s just like, nobody else can, you can’t see that sign from outside.”

The home’s mailbox had been sealed with clear wrapping tape — the same tape used to attach the eerie sign next to the door, the mailman said.

“The only person who goes up to the door is the mail carrier. It’s weird. The whole situation was weird. Definitely don’t want it to happen again.”

When police arrived, they found a bloody scene inside and discovered the bodies of three “elderly” individuals. The cause of death and identities of the deceased have not been released, pending an autopsy, Burlington County prosecutors said.

A neighbor said a family of brothers and sisters lived at the home.

Whoever had left the creepy sign for Clements only drew two “rudimentary” faces, even though three people were found dead.

“Two fit, exactly. On the picture. That’s all he had room for. It was an 8.5, like a regular 8.5 by 11 sheet,” he recalled.

Clements said he thought three or four people lived in the dilapidated house with peeling paint and rotting window frames, adding that they seemed like “nice people” from what he could tell, even though the unkempt home stood out from the surrounding tidy ones in the modest Philadelphia suburb.

A longtime neighborhood resident who routinely strolls past the Winding Way home was going on a walk when Clements made the harrowing discovery, and he asked her for advice before calling 911.

The woman, who did not want to share her name, told The Post that four brothers and sisters lived in the house and kept to themselves.

“I mean, we’ve been here 50 some years. They were here before us, but they pretty much stayed by themselves,” she said.

“I do know that one sister was a crossing guard for years. My kids knew her and everything like that. And so she worked parades and other things as a crossing guard here in town.”

“The one brother, he was like clockwork. He would always walk down to 7-Eleven around 2:30, 3, and walk on back. I think he would get lottery tickets and something to drink. But other than that, they would barely leave their house. And none of them drove anywhere.”

The longtime resident described the area as a “quiet neighborhood” and had heard no signs of violence but did notice something unusual as she walked past the unkept home Tuesday.

“Tuesday is our trash day,” she said. And I saw someone coming out of the house. All the years I’ve been here I’ve never seen anybody come in, go out of the house. [except for the man who walks to 7-Eleven].

“And, but it was trash day. He had a bag in his hand. Took it down to the curb, dropped it next to another container.

“It was just a little bag. He put it down. And walked away. All black, all black. All black. He was just like walking down the street. He didn’t get him to a car, he just kept, he was just walking.”

Clements said he was still shaken up by the harrowing discovery.

“That sign is so bizarre. It just felt weird. I was like, ooh, that doesn’t… That’s not like that happens every day, you know?,” he said.

“It’s just, this is the first time I’ve ever, ever seen something like that.”

The Burlington County Medical Examiner’s office did not immediately respond to The Post Sunday morning.
