Jordan Rodgers makes a ‘surprise’ Aaron Rodgers pick in rare public comments about brother
· New York PostAaron Rodgers has an unusual person in his corner this season — his brother.
When asked about which AFC starting quarterback he trusts the most in the playoffs, Jordan Rodgers went with Aaron, 42, as his pick.
“This one might surprise you a little bit,” Jordan, 38, said Wednesday during an appearance on ESPN. “I’m gonna go Rodgers, and here’s why … the Steelers know who they are. They have an elite defense that’s playing at a high level and they run the freaking ball, so they’re asking less of Aaron than they ever have at any point in his career, right?
“He needs to manage the run game, he needs to find opportunities to get his playmakers in space.”
Aaron, who is in his 22nd NFL season, has thrown for 1,871 yards along with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions, helping lead the Steelers to a 6-2 record thus far.
“I just feel like I trust the guy that’s got the MVPs, that has the veteran status that’s seen everything that’s also not required everything of him for them to win,” Jordan continued. “I think that’s a good sweet spot they’re in.”
Jordan’s pick comes as quite a shock as the two have been estranged for over a decade, a feud which was publicized when the younger brother revealed to now-wife JoJo Fletcher on “The Bachelorette” that Aaron was not present with the rest of their family.
In September, however, Aaron revealed that thanks to his mystery wife, Brittani, he reconciled with his family earlier this year.
“There was some stuff there and then I could tell I was coming to a time where I needed to make it right,” Aaron said on the “Not Just Football” podcast then. “My parents were wanting to move to Nashville to be closer to their grandkids, and there were some tragic events that happened in Chico that kind of made them not feel as tied to it.”
Aaron also opened up on how he met and had a “tough conversation” with his brothers shortly after.
“A couple weeks after that, I met with my little brother. It was cool,” he added. “I’m in a much better headspace.
“My wife deserves a lot of the credit for that just to be even able to to get to that point where I could think about having the conversation.”
