Girl, three, dies in city centre tram crash

A three-year-old girl has died after a collision between a tram and van in Manchester city centre. The girl died when a Mercedes-Benz van collided with a Metrolink tram travelling through the city this morning as she walked along Mosley Street.

Greater Manchester Police has sealed off the centre of the city. All trams have been suspended through St Peter's Square while officers remain at the scene, and a cordon has been placed at Mosley Street.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said in a statement that the little girl was taken to hospital, where she sadly died following the incident.

They said: "Emergency services are responding to reports of a collision involving a tram and a van in Manchester city centre. A three-year-old girl was taken to hospital and has sadly passed away from her injuries. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
