Martin Kemp has shared his "biggest regret" in an emotional family revelation.

The 63-year-old gained fame with Spandau Ballet, which he formed with his older brother Gary during their early twenties. They embarked on worldwide tours with bandmates Tony Hadley, Steve Norman, and John Keeble.

Martin says he decided to help his mum and dad leave north London for an idyllic life on the south coast, he fears he should have visited them more often. Martin's dad, Frank, died of a heart attack in 2009, aged 79, with mum Eileen dying just 48 hours later, aged 77.

Reflecting on this with his son Roman Kemp in the podcast, FFS, My dad is Martin Kemp, the former EastEnders star expressed that not visiting his parents enough was his "biggest regret".

He recounted: "I didn't spend enough time with my mum and dad, that's one of my biggest regrets. When Gary and I first made it in the band, with the first bits of money that was coming in, apart from buying my own flat, I also bought my mum and dad a house.

"I said to my mum and dad, 'Where do you want to go?' because my dad had just had a huge heart attack. My mum and dad said, 'Oh, we'd like to go to Bournemouth' because they'd be near the beach and they can walk, my dad had this huge heart attack he had to recover from.

"For a year my mum and dad were down there and I used to go down probably once every couple of months, and then it got fewer and further between until I would go down. In the end I was going down maybe once, twice a year to go and see them. By that time I was away working, I was on tour at that point."

He believed he was around 19 or 20 when the move happened, reports Gloucestershire Live. Roman however reassured his father it was "normal" not to see your parents too much at that age.

Roman said: "That's normal mate. Some people when you're 19, 20, 21 go on a gap year, that's basically what you did."

Martin explained he did have the chance to visit his parents more regularly during his younger days, conceding he "chose not to". He later went on to explain more about his relationship with his mum and dad, admitting they rarely told him they loved him.

He explained: "I knew they loved me, they just found it difficult to say 'I love you'. I could always feel it was difficult, in fact, my mum and dad never said, 'I love you,' they said 'love you' because they were too embarrassed to get that 'I love you'."
