ITV The Masked Singer fans convinced Girls Aloud star is Snail after fresh accent clue
by Samantha King, Emmanuella Ngimbi · Wales OnlineThe latest instalment of The Masked Singer had audiences gripped as a significant new hint led many to believe they've figured out the identity of one of the masked contestants.
This week's episode was superhero-themed, with judges Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Maya Jama, and Jonathan Ross donning costumes of fictional heroes, alongside guest judge and Olympian Tom Daley.
Saturday's show (January 18) featured an array of disguised performers including Tattoo, Snail, Kingfisher, Teeth, and Dressed Crab. While their true identities were kept under wraps, eagle-eyed viewers picked up on a distinct aspect of Snail's voice that made them suspect it was a Girls Aloud member, reports the Express.
On X, a sleuthing viewer asserted: "Sounds like there's an Irish twang... going with Nadine Coyle." Another agreed, writing: "#Maskedsinger snail definitely sounded Irish!"
A third fan speculated: "Snail = Nadine Coyle disguising her tone? Dreams that glitter. Can't speak French." Another viewer, convinced of a girl band connection, stated: "Snail is definitely a member of Girls Aloud! #TheMaskedSinger." Meanwhile, another suggested: "I like the Nadine Coyle guess, deffo disguising her voice though."
Throughout the episode, Snail offered up several hints that sparked a flurry of speculation among the judges and those watching at home. Offering up clues about their identity, Snail remarked: "I've been schooled in the best way," which led Olympic champion Tom to guess: "Girls Aloud, didn't they perform in St Trinians?"
Davina observed that the contestant was holding a piece of cross-stitch with the words 'Je t'aime' on it, prompting Tom to suggest they might be "French speaking," or "lives in France."
This clue set fans abuzz, with many speculating it pointed to Nadine Coyle from Girls Aloud, known for their hit Can't Speak French released in 2007. The speculation continued as names like Leona Lewis, Darcey Bussell, Paris Hilton, and Amanda Seyfried were suggested by Jonathan and others.
The show has seen several celebrities unmasked so far, including Spag Bol, who turned out to be Good Britain host Kata Garraway; Pegasus, revealed as Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith; Toad in the Hole, who was Macy Gray; and most recently Tattoo, unveiled as singer Carol Decker.
The Masked Singer airs Saturday nights on ITV1 from 7pm
