New Netflix film Woman of the Hour delves into the life of notorious criminal Rodney Alcala, charting how he came to be known by his chilling moniker.

His participation in the US game show The Dating Game is a focal point of the film, as unbeknownst to his fellow contestants and viewers at home, Alcala had already committed a string of appalling crimes. This led to him being infamously labelled as The Dating Game Killer.

Anna Kendrick stars as the episode's bachelorette who has a near-miss with the killer. The tale, which recreates some of Alcala's most despicable crimes, also marks Kendrick's directorial debut.

While the film does recreate the infamous game show appearance, it takes creative liberties with certain aspects. For example, in reality, Alcala was bachelor number one, and although the real Cheryl did prompt them to act out a scenario due to her being a drama teacher, she asked them to impersonate an old man rather than a nerdy schoolboy or professor, reports the Mirror.

One particular question from the actual show seems to have been included in the film but is interrupted by other events unfolding in the scene. As the game commenced, the bachelors were encouraged to greet their potential date, leading Alcala to say: "We're going to have a great time together Cheryl."

The Netflix adaptation, however, omits several other questions and exchanges from Alcala's appearance on The Dating Game. Below are the real questions and answers that were given.

Question: Bachelor number one - What's your best time?

Alcala: The best time is at night, night time. Because that's the only time there is.

Question: What's wrong with morning, afternoon?

Alcala: Well, they're ok, but night time is when it really gets good, then you're really ready.

Question: I'm a drama teacher and I'm going to audition each of you for my private class. Bachelor number one, you're a dirty old man. Take it away.

Alcala: Oh come on over here (growls and grunts).

Question: Bachelor number one, I'm serving you for dinner. What are you called and what do you look like?

Alcala: I'm called the banana and I look really good.

Question: Can you be a little more descriptive?

Alcala: Peel me.

Cheryl wasn't formally introduced to Alcala on the show until she selected him for her date. At that point, host Jim Lange portrayed him as a "fine photographer" who enjoys skydiving and motorcycles. Lange then disclosed that the couple's date would involve tennis lessons at an exclusive club, followed by a day at the Magic Mountain amusement park.

However, the date never materialised, as Cheryl contacted producers the next day to express her reluctance to go out with Alcala, citing that she found him 'creepy'.
