Love Island's Iain Stirling takes swipe at All Stars contestant as they make show history
by Danni King · Wales OnlineLove Island star Iain Stirling took a brutal swipe at one of this year's All Stars contestants during an interview on Good Morning Britain. The comedian, who narrates the hit ITV2 dating show, shared his thoughts on the upcoming series, which will begin airing on Monday 13 January.
Iain, 36, was asked by GMB host Susanna Reid how he feels that one of the All Stars Islanders, Marcel Sommerville, is older than him. It marks the first time an Islander has been older than Iain, with Marcel 39 years old.
"Seeing all these old Islanders again, it's like a little nostalgic trip through," Iain said, prompting Susanna to point out: "Isn't this the first time that a Love Islander has entered the Love Island villa who is older than you? It's like when you see policemen getting younger."
"Marcel, who is from Blazin' Squad, I'm guessing a bit, but he must be 40 now," Iain said, before Susanna corrected him and said Marcel is 39.
However, Susanna's co-host Ed Balls insisted: "That does not make him old!" to which Iain shared his thoughts, responding: "But, older than me. You shouldn't be older than me and doing Love Island, I don't think."
Marcel is one of the familiar faces returning to the iconic Love Island villa for the second series of All Stars. He joins Curtis Pritchard, Gabby Allen, Nas Majeed, Elma Pazar, India Reynolds, Luca Bish, Kaz Crossley, Catherine Agbaje, Olivia Hawkins, Scott Thomas and Ronnie Vint on this year's official line-up.
There will no doubt be drama in store for former Blazin' Squad star Marcel, who was previously in a relationship with fellow Islander Gabby after they met on series three. Since the show, Marcel has also been married and became a dad to a son.
Speaking about his decision to return to the villa, Marcel said: "I thought that I’d completed love and found my happily ever after – but the universe had a different plan. Somehow every time my life’s at a crossroads, I’ve got the opportunity to do Love Island. So I thought, why not?"
Revealing what he learned about himself after starring on the ITV2 show, the 39 year old admitted: "In my series I was deemed ‘Dr Marcel’, I was giving everyone love advice. Since the show, I’ve gone through a lot of situations in life and in love so I’ve topped up my knowledge… but I feel like maybe I need to take some advice when it comes to love this time round as well."
Love Island All Stars begins airing on ITV2 and ITVX on Monday 13 January at 9pm
