ITV Grantchester star Tom Brittney's exciting new projects after Reverend Will Davenport exit

by · Wales Online

Tom Brittney, known for his role as Reverend Will Davenport in ITV's Grantchester, is set to leave the show after six years, with new projects already on the horizon.

Brittney's character was introduced in the fourth season as a replacement for Reverend Sidney Chambers, played by James Norton, and has since been a constant presence alongside DI Geordie Keating, portrayed by Robson Green.

The 34 year old actor announced his departure from the popular ITV series during its ninth season. His final scenes will be broadcast tonight, Wednesday, January 15, at 9pm.

In the last episode, viewers saw Will grappling with a sense of stagnation as his church congregation began to dwindle.

An offer from the Bishop to move to a new parish suggests a possible exit route for the character.

However, Brittney isn't slowing down, with several new projects already lined up.

The first of these is a role in Netflix's action film Back In Action, where he'll appear alongside Hollywood heavyweights Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx, who play former CIA spies.

Set for release on Friday, January 17, Back In Action boasts a stellar cast that includes Glenn Close of Fatal Attraction fame, Fleabag's Andrew Scott, and Kyle Chandler from Bloodline.

Additionally, the Grantchester star has been involved in the thriller Black Box (Flight 298), which is currently in post-production.

The upcoming film features a cast of familiar faces, including Ceallach Spellman, known for his roles in Waterloo Road and Cold Feet, alongside Danny Mac, the Hollyoaks star and finalist from Strictly Come Dancing 2016.

The movie's intriguing premise is outlined: "Vero Airlines Flight 298 from New Orleans to Seattle becomes the center of a chilling supernatural mystery."

Moreover, Brittney has recently finished work on a short film titled Tanner's Field, acting beside Katie Clarkson-Hill of Hanna fame, and Matthew Ashforde, recognised for his part in Hetty Feather.

Grantchester season nine continues every Wednesday at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
