ITV I'm A Celebrity star becomes first to quit trial as they break down in tears
by Joe Crutchley · Wales OnlineA popular I'm A Celebrity star has become the first celebrity to abandon a trial in this year's series.
The ITV show made its return on Tuesday (November 19), with Ant and Dec once again leading the proceedings, as they checked in on the latest group of celebs braving the Aussie jungle.
This year's line-up includes stars such as Tulisa, Oti Mabuse, Jane Moore, Danny Jones, and Dean McCullough, who have all agreed to endure the rough conditions for a few weeks. They are joined by Coleen Rooney, GK Barry and Melvin Odoom, all vying for the title of King or Queen of the Jungle.
In the most recent episode on Tuesday (November 18), it was BBC Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough's turn to face his first Bushtucker Trial, and the second of the series, 'The Sinister Sarcophagus'.
Upon reaching the Trial area, Dean encountered a mummy figurine which he had to be secured into for the duration of the Trial. Simultaneously, he had to answer a series of Egypt-themed questions, reports the Express.
For each correct answer, a star would be lowered down and he had to release it using only his mouth within 30 seconds. Unimpressed, Dean told Ant and Dec about the trial: "You're so extra this series, so extra! " He then added: "I went to Egypt years ago, but I wasn't paying attention."
As he climbed into the sarcophagus, Dean said: "This is my worst nightmare because I can't get out." Shortly after, sand filled the body compartment along with giant mealworms and crickets that were poured into his head compartment.
After successfully answering two questions and releasing the stars, the pressure became too much for Dean, leading him to exclaim the infamous phrase: "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!"
Following his exit from the trial, Dean was visibly upset, shedding tears as presenters Ant and Dec came to his aid with comforting words. "Hey, hey, you're alright," they consoled him while he struggled to regain composure.
Ant empathised with Dean's distress, remarking, "Sometimes you just can't do it," as Dean continued to weep, expressing his discomfort at being unable to move his legs. The hosts then delivered the unfortunate news that he had secured only two stars for the camp.
On social media, viewers were quick to comment on Dean's decision to quit the trial, with many predicting a bleak outcome. On platform X, fans speculated that Dean would likely be chosen for the upcoming trials.
"Dean the weasel. More voting for him," one viewer predicted. Another added, "Oh Dean get ready for a few more trials." A third person echoed the sentiment, saying, "Everyone is going to vote for Dean again."
I'm A Celebrity airs Monday to Sunday on 9pm on ITV1.
